Distinct from other ticks that inject a substance that has anaesthestic properties so that tick bites are seldom felt by humans, Lone star tick bites are painful. Lone star ticks are known to carry several diseases, including tularemia, which can be deadly, and a syndrome similar to Lyme disease.
