The myth of the BULLSEYE RASH.
It is often said that a bullseye rash always accompanies Lyme. This is untrue. Sometimes, the rash simply doesn't appear. Sometimes, it appears in places you can't see.
Say, for instance, that a tick the size of a poppy seed buries it's tiny head into your scalp. Do you feel it? No. Do you see it? No. Does it suck your blood for as long as it likes and then drop off you? Most likely. If it carries pathogens, did it transmit them to you? Probably. So...when a bullseye rash appears on your scalp, can you see it under your hair? Certainly not. If the rash is on your back, are you going to see it? Probably not. Someone else might, but then again, someone else might not, especially if you are a single woman.
What does all this mean? It means this. If you DO see a bullseye rash, it's a very good indicator of Lyme. However, if you don't see a bullseye rash, it is NOT a good indicator that you don't have Lyme.
