Great comments from Georgia Lyme Disease Association: "Babesiosis cases make headlines in a Pennsylvania county. Again without question, the disease is reported as "rare" and "most common in the Northeast and Upper Midwest" but is this really true? Or could it be that the cases are simply being tracked there and not elsewhere because these are the only states awarded the federal funding to investigate?"

"Time to put on your thinking caps and ask questions, reporters! In the Southeast, we hear from so many patients who have contracted Babesiosis but their cases are not investigated or reported. When federal funding is only provided to a handful of states, reporters and "experts" are making a huge leap by making statements about how "rare" a disease is or where it exists. Yes, those states may have the most "reported" cases, but check it out...are other states equipped to actually track the disease? And are they doing so? In the case of Babesiosis and many other tick-borne diseases, most states are not. This matters greatly - it's important for doctors and citizens to be aware of what diseases exist in their areas."
