Resident Hopes to Make More People Aware of Lyme Disease

"Who the heck says Lyme disease is rare in the South? South Carolina resident warns others about Lyme disease. Not only was she diagnosed with the disease in 1992, but her father and her grandson contracted it, too."

"Don't let the CDC's numbers fool you! GALDA has found hundreds and hundreds of cases like this one over the years from southerners who report getting the disease more than once or having multiple family members infected. Other advocates in states across the South have collected these stories, too and these cases are NOT reported. The problem is the restrictive REPORTING PRACTICES used here for decades of which the CDC is well aware. They should divulge this fact immediately and explain that it's impossible to compare state case numbers. Southerners deserve to be armed with the truth to protect themselves."
