Massachusetts Scout's projects is aimed at lowering Lyme Disease.
"The boxes will hopefully attract nesting Screech Owls. The idea is that the owls will hunt and eat the rodents and mice in the area that potentially carry Lyme Disease. These small rodents are the main hosts of the ticks and a pool for the Lyme bacteria. Ticks often will bite mice and then move to larger animals (such as people and dogs). By reducing the rodent population, there will hopefully be a decrease in Lyme Disease being transmitted to residents."
