patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome , much better after taking doxycycline
"
No one should say that fibromyalgia and similar conditions have only
psychological causes. Often I find signs of infection, such as elevated
erythrocyte sedimentation rate, for low iron stores or high levels of
white blood cells in the blood. Suspicion of infection caused me to
attempt long-term antibiotic therapy in these patients, says Ulf
Maxhall, specialist in family medicine at highlands medical offices.
Returning to work
Maxhall supports the U.S. effort, which found that patients with
fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome were made better after taking
the antibiotic doxycycline. In the beginning, he prescribed it to only a
very few patients. The results were good. - Eight of the twelve
patients had good or very good effect on their muscle and joint pain. No
side effects occurred. One patient returned to work after being off
sick for more than a year. "
