Bad dental hygiene linked to Alzheimer's People who fail to keep their teeth clean could be at greater risk of Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study.

So pleased to see this in the Telegraph and that the research was done here in the UK.Some years ago Pathologist Judith Miklossy found dental spirochetes in the brains of patients who had died of Alzheimer's she published Alzheimer's a Neurospirochetosis http://www.jneuroinflammation
.... and her website miklossy.ch is well worth a visit.
Miklossy links the plaques found in Alzheimer's to various spirochetal infections the first has been known about for at least a century - Syphilis. Miklossy also found Borrelia spirochetes in the brains of Alzheimer patients.
Interestingly Dr Alan MacDonald (websitehttp://alzheimerborreliosis.ne

... ) found borrelia DNA in 7 out of 10 alzheimer brains. He was recently involved in research published in Plos One which shows borrelia can form biofilms - biofilms are made by many bacteria and are the reason for chronic persistent hard to treat infections.
MacDonald's latest hypothosis which he is researching is that the plaques found in Alzheimer's are the biofilm of Borrelia
Judith Miklossy says much research needs to be done in this field as there are already available medicines to treat bacterial or viral infections.
Sadly testing for some of these pathogens is inadequate and not always reliable but in the case of Borrelia there is detailed information on the many forms of borrelia which are not always spirochetal, so microscopy could be used as it is with other infections.
Advanced Laboratories http://advanced-lab.com/news/b

... have just produced a culture test but this is only available in USA we need this available in Europe.
Science will get there in the end but for 30+ years the science related to Borrelia has been held back because of the narrow opinions of those who have influence and power over testing and treatments.
Perhaps the Telegraph could do an in depth article on MacDoanld and Miklossy's independent work.
