A new spirochete has been identified in mosquitoes by Czech researchers. As reported in the May-June issue of Microbiological Research, "This study highlights certain phenotypic differences between strain BR91 and the Lyme disease spirochaete Borrelia burgdorferi, and supports the hypothesis that strain BR91 represents a unique taxonomical entity in a system of spirochaetal species."
GALDA note: It is important to remember, it's unproven and unclear whether mosquitoes may transmit these spirochetes. Mosquitoes don't share the same life cycle and feeding patterns as ticks, so further research is needed.
