Could Canada's Blood Supply Already be Contaminated by Lyme Disease?

When people who have presented with symptoms of undiagnosed Lyme disease are allowed to give blood - and they are - how can we be sure that blood does not contaminate the Canadian blood supply?
Lyme disease is an emerging epidemic in Canada and it is imperative that we protect the country's blood supply from Lyme and its related pathogens/parasites We can't afford to repeat the same mistakes that were made during the HIV epidemic'

Silver makes antibiotics thousands of times more effective

'Many antibiotics are thought to kill their targets by producing reactive oxygen compounds, and Collins and his team showed that when boosted with a small amount of silver these drugs could kill between 10 and 1,000 times as many bacteria. The increased membrane permeability also allows more antibiotics to enter the bacterial cells, which may overwhelm the resistance mechanisms that rely on shuttling the drug back out'
Ancient antimicrobial treatment could help to solve modern bacterial resistance.

Researchers in New York have completed a study which finds that ticks are more likely to carry multiple Lyme-related pathogens.

Researchers in New York have completed a study which finds that ticks are more likely to carry multiple Lyme-related pathogens.
"Not only was co-infection with the agents of Lyme disease and babesiosis greater than expected, but rates of triple infection with the agents of Lyme, babesiosis, and anaplasmosis were about twice as likely as expected."
People who get bitten by a blacklegged tick have a higher-than-expected chance of being exposed to more than one pathogen at the same time.

organisms can be simultaneously transmitted with one tick bite, and we do not have reliable blood tests for all of these bacteria and parasites. These infections can therefore go undetected and lead to a "Lyme-like illness".

Lyme disease is spreading worldwide. In this study recently published in Infection, Genetics and Evolution, scientists have confirmed that Ixodes scapularis ticks from across five Midwestern States contain multiple infectious agents apart from Lyme disease, including newer Borrelia species, such as Borrelia miyamotoi, and other Babesia species, such as Babesia odocoilei. These organisms can be simultaneously transmitted with one tick bite, and we do not have reliable blood tests for all of these bacteria and parasites. These infections can therefore go undetected and lead to a "Lyme-like illness". The MSIDS model discussed in my book discusses in detail how the majority of patients affected with Lyme disease suffer from overlapping co-infections, contributing to chronic persistent illness.

Patients from Texas come to me with symptoms consistent with tick-borne diseases, after being told that there is no Lyme disease in their state. In this article published in Parasites and Vectors, researchers from Texas A&M, Texas State University and the University of Texas found that 45% of the ticks collected in Texas contained Borrelia burgdorferi, the agent of Lyme disease. These findings refute previous discussion and speculation that Lyme disease is relatively non-exis...

Co-Infection of Blacklegged Ticks with Babesia microti and Borrelia burgdorferi Is Higher than...

<<Observed levels of co-infection frequently deviated from what would be predicted if all three pathogens assorted independently (Figure 2). Most notably, B. microti/B. burgdorferi co-infection was 83% greater than predicted if all three pathogens assorted independently>>
This means that it was much more than co-incidence that Babesia was being found together with borrelia in ticks - it wasn't just random that both babesia and Borrelia were together. Which is strange really.
