Mets Hall of Fame legend Tom Seaver begins the long goodbye

NY Mets sportlegende trekt zich terug uit het openbare leven wegens geheugenverlies, die het vervolg is op een opgelopen Lyme infectie in de jaren ’90.
’’Seaver has been suffering from memory problems for years as the result of Lyme disease. According to Newsday, former Met Art Shamsky details Seaver’s health problems in the book "After the Miracle: The Lasting Brotherhood of the ’69 Mets,’’ due out March 19.
Shamsky wrote that Seaver suffers from short-term memory loss, which Seaver told him can be traced to Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks, contracted in 1991 when he lived in Greenwich, Connecticut.
“Hey, man, once you’ve got it, you’ve got it forever,’’ Seaver said to Shamsky.’’
