A
new case study describes a patient with Crohn's disease, an autoimmune
disease, who was on medications to suppress his immune system and became
sick. PET and MRI imaging revealed abscesses and other inflammatory
abnormalities in his organs and bones that gave the appearance the man
may have cancer. However, a biopsy of a lesion in his liver revealed a
kind of inflammation that is sometimes associated with infection.
Further testing revealed the cause was Bartonella henselae.
