Lyme disease's spread calls for government action
Lyme disease's spread calls for government action
"Catherine Avalone/The Middletown Press Higganum resident Frank C.
Demarest addresses the General Assembly about his son who was too sick
to attend school in October 1992. Demarest said, "We were fortunate that
we had no insurance problems, although costs exceeded $100,000. There
have been great advances in medicine. But Lyme disease has the same
problems it had twenty years ago. The lab tests are not a reliable means
of excluding a Lyme diagnosis and antibiotics do not easily cure late
stage Lyme disease. "
