Tick bites can lead to red meat allergy
"Alpha-gal is a sugar that is contained in mammalian meat such as beef, goat, pork, venison, lamb or bison. Fish, turkey and chicken do not contain alpha gal. When a person who is allergic to alpha-gal eats red meat, their body releases histamines that can cause hives, swelling, dizziness, difficulty breathing or closure of the throat that can ultimately lead to death. These patients must quickly be treated with epinephrine and antihistamines."
