Over the years, researchers have documented Lyme disease-causing bacteria in parasites other than ticks. Now, scientists from the Czech Republic report finding Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato in mites and fleas removed from yellow necked mice and bank voles. More studies must be done to determine whether these are competent vectors. Understanding their feeding patterns, too, may help us gauge the likelihood of disease transmission to humans."
