This article may inflame the Lyme community, as it contains some erroneous statements about Lyme disease being easily cured. Despite these inaccuracies, this story is of interest as it documents the first recorded case in New York of the rare Borrelia miyamotoi co-infection, which has only recently been observed in the United States.
A scary new strain of Lyme disease has made it to our area, but thankfully, the only child in New York ever reported to have this form of the illness has made a full recovery.

Lyme bill, HR 4701, July 23, 2014 version, was passed with voice vote out of the Energy and Commerce Committee today
More good news. Lyme bill, HR 4701, July 23, 2014 version, was passed with voice vote out of the Energy and Commerce Committee today. Congressman Chris Gibson introduced this Lyme bill into Congress, and here are some of the essential points of the bill: "The bipartisan legislation forms an interagency working group consisting of federal agencies and non-federal partners, including experienced Lyme physicians and patient advocates with a broad spectrum of scientific viewpoints. The working group is tasked with ensuring coordination among federal agencies to maximize research priorities. H.R. 4701 requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to consult with the working group to submit a strategic plan to Congress within three years that includes benchmarks to measure progress. The plan must include a proposal for improving outcomes of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, including progress related to chronic or persistent symptoms, infections, and co-infections.
I am very grateful to Congressman Gibson for his hard work in getting this bill into Congress. It gives us a chance to effectively deal with the health threat of Lyme and associated tick-borne diseases that are rapidly spreading across our country and the world. Please feel free to send Congressman Gibson a word of thanks on his home page if you feel so moved:

Dr. Klinghardt demonstrates a technique for lymph-drainage, that he particularly uses for kiddos with PANDAS, but is super beneficial for each of us! It's unbelievably simple to do! You can do it on yourself, and/or use it on somebody else. This should not be used more than 3 minutes per day - it's powerful!

So it might be worth looking at the manifestations of infection with these types of microfilaria - they are in millions of humans,in the Southern hemisphere, and there are dozens of species.
Perhaps we have a Northern hemisphere species as one of our co-infections?
