Spirochetes Because of controversy over both diagnosis and what constitutes a reasonable protocol of those who have Lyme disease, many people are being denied adequate support and therefore suffering unnecessarily. Some of the herbs on this page have been found useful by some who have been challenged by this condition.
	Cat's Claw Extract, 2 oz. Uncaria tomentosa Uncaria tomentosa is a rain forest herb with demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties. It is therefore often used for people with rheumatoid arthritis. Preliminary studies suggest that cat's claw slows tumor growth and that it enhances immunity. It is safe in the recommended doses; side effects are usually associated with possible allergic reactions to plants in the Rubiaceae family. As more and more studies are being conducted, interest in cat's claw has come to include AIDS (in conjunction with Jergon Sacha) and Lyme disease. There are a few studies suggesting that this herb is capable of such actions because it is not only a superb free-radical scavenger but also promotes the repair of DNA. Alcohol: 45% Contains: extract of Uncaria tomentosa bark in distilled water, organic grain alcohol, and pure vegetable glycerin. Guaiacum Extract, 2 oz.  Guaiacum officinale Guaiacum has been popular since the sixteenth century when it was introduced from the Caribbean as a remedy for diseases of the reproductive system. It is an ingredient in most formulas for spirochete infections but is only rarely used alone. It is an important ingredient in the famous Compound Syrup Scrophularia of the historic Eclectic physician Dr. Eli Jones, sold by Sacred Medicine Sanctuary as Seneca Elixir. Guaiacum is acquiring a reputation for efficacy with rheumatoid arthritis and tonsillitis, probably because it addresses underlying conditions, i.e., causal factors such as microscopic organisms that may be associated with better known conditions. Alcohol: 90% Contains: Extract of wildcrafted Lignum vitae (Guaiacum officinale) resin 1:5 in Organic Gain Alcohol USF and Distilled Water. Indian Sarsaparilla Extract, 2 oz. Hemidesmus indicus Anantamul is a spreading plant that is cooling to pitta. It moves throughout the body, removing toxins and cleansing. It stimulates the flow of bile and increases urinary output. It is particularly effective for the digestive system, joints, nerves, and reproductive system. It is also used to cleanse the mind of negative emotions, especially pitta emotions like anger and irritability. Alcohol: 49-51% Contains: 1:4 extract of organically grown Hemidesmus indicusroot in Distilled Water, Organic Alcohol, and Vegetable Glycerin. Japanese Knotweed, 2 oz Polygonum cuspidatum Japanese knotweed is presently prized mainly for its very high reservatrol content, but in traditional Chinese medicine, it is used mainly to detoxify the blood and improve circulation. Recent studies suggest that Polygonum cuspidatum is antimicrobial and antimutagenic. It is also an excellent antioxidant. Even more recently, Japanese knotweed has been widely used by Lyme-infected patients to reduce damage to the nervous system due to toxins. It is regarded as more useful against the co-infections than the spirochete itself. Alcohol: 29-31% Contains: Polygonum cuspidatum root in distilled water, organic alcohol, and vegetable glycerin. Spilanthes Extract, 2 oz. Spilanthes acmella Spilanthes is nicknamed the toothache plant. It temporarily numbs the areas of the mouth where it makes contact, mainly the gums, and through increased production of saliva has an antibacterial effect similar to that of echinacea. Spilanthes is also antifungal and antiparasitic. It has also been used to treat co-infections of Lyme disease. Spilanthes is native to Brazil and Africa where it is used to treat stammering and to improve digestion of carbohydrates and fats. Be aware that spilanthes causes a temporarily tingling sensation that is part of the immune response it triggers. Alcohol: 54-56% Contains: fresh, organically grown Spilanthes acmella leaf and flower in Distilled Water, Organic Alcohol, and Pure Vegetable Glycerin. Spiro Pro 2 oz. alcohol extract This formula is based on the work of Stephen Buhner but is somewhat modified to promote superior crossing of the blood-brain barrier. Alcohol: 53% Contains: Uncaria tomentosa bark, Dipsacus sylvestris root,Smilax glabra root, Guaiacum officinale resin in organic grain alcohol and vegetable glycerin. Teasel Extract, 2 oz. Dipsacus sylvestris Teasel is a potent astringent and is often used as a diuretic and to arrest diarrhea. It stimulates the appetite, improves digestion, and, like other members of the thistle family, aids rejuvenation of the liver and gall bladder. However, it is also regarded as useful in the treatment of Lyme disease. Matthew Wood devoted an entire chapter to it in one of his books and it is one of the ingredients in the Stephen Boehner formula we produce under the name of Spiro Pro. Use very cautiously and check the directions before dispensing. Alcohol: 60% Contains: extract of Dipsacus sylvestris root 1:2 in organic cane alcohol, distilled water, and vegetable glycerin.
