Deer
ticks can give you more than just Lyme disease. A new study shows
another serious tick-borne infection, from the same family of bacterium
that causes Lyme, with similar symptoms of fever and severe headaches.
The disease is Borrelia miyamotoi Disease, where patients "tend to look
sicker than those with Lyme" and 25% of which were hospitalized. This
new knowledge may now help doctors diagnose patients who are having
similar symptoms of Lyme disease, but are receiving negative results.
As
if Lyme disease weren't enough to worry about, a new study warns about
another tick-borne disease infecting people in the U.S.
