New Gene Discovery Could Lead To Earlier Lyme Test And Diagnosis
Diagnosing Lyme can be very difficult. The telltale bull’s eye rash (erythema migrans) is absent in 20-30% and the rash may be mistaken for an allergic reaction or local skin infection. Now a “next-generation sequencing” technique called RNA-seq found distinctive patterns in patients with Lyme disease, a discovery that could lead to earlier infection.
