John Caudwell

Some of you may have seen that I spoke to Holly and Phil on the This Morning programme a while back.
I made the points that the NHS and its staff know very little about diagnosing or treating Lyme disease.
Whilst this is mainly down to the fact that there simply isn't good enough research to guide them, the consequence is that thousands of people are suffering unnecessarily dreadful chronic illnesses.
There's also the complication that Lyme disease is the "Great Imitator". Its symptoms can masquerade as so many other conditions. There are almost certainly tens of thousands of people struggling along, with no idea their symptoms are caused by this horrible illness.
After talking on TV, I met Jeremy Hunt and asked him to do something about it. The government's Independent Enquiry and the NICE guidelines team have thoroughly analysed the research that we need.
Whilst there is definite progress in the awareness of Lyme disease, there is woefully too little activity that will make a difference to all of those suffering people.
THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH MUST FUND THIS RESEARCH, AND DO IT NOW.
I am totally committed to changing the world for Lyme sufferers. For my part, my knowledge keeps growing, as my family fight this horribly debilitating illness. I will use this knowledge and whatever influence I can bring to bear, to convince the Department of Health that Lyme disease needs to be tackled as a matter of absolute urgency.
