Can foxes reduce the risk of Lyme disease?
Can foxes reduce the risk of Lyme disease?: Taal Levi, a researcher at Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies, talks about Lyme disease and tick prevalence. Video by Chrissie Williams
A fox roams a small forested area in Dutchess County. This photo was captured by a motion-sensitive camera as part of a study to examine the impact of different predators on the rates of Lyme disease. This photo was taken June 18, 2012.
Lyme disease researchers at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook are searching for local fox dens to study the role foxes play in suppressing white-footed mice and other tick hosts that increase the risk of spreading Lyme disease.
Researchers are asking anyone with any information about the location of a fox den in or near a wooded area in Dutchess, Ulster or Columbia counties to please contact Dr. Taal Levi atthetaaltree@gmail.com or (831) 332-7873.
