"With blood tests for Lyme disease often turning up negative in people with persistent symptoms, it's time to look for the bacteria that causes the illness in other parts of the body, an infectious disease expert said Wednesday. "If we can't find it in the bloodstream, maybe it's in a nerve," said Dr. Sam Donta of Falmouth. Donta told more than 30 people attending a Wednesday tick-borne disease seminar hosted by Cape Cod Community College that many symptoms of Lyme disease are reversible with proper treatment. But too often physicians won't treat cases of persistent or chronic Lyme because blood tests come back negative, Donta said."
