The LymeLight Foundation awards grants to help young people pay for Lyme treatment. See their website for how to apply.
Annalisa was bitten by a tick while camping in Colorado at age 18. At first she just felt headaches and fatigue but didn't associate these symptoms with the tick bite. She gradually went downhill. 3 years later she was having seizures, tremors, trouble walking and eating.
When she was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease and began the rigorous treatment, she had to drop out of college and move home. She was ultimately able to complete an online degree and by pure determination she plans to graduate this summer.
Her LymeLight grant will made it possible for her to have the surgery necessary to implant the catheter to allow her to begin IV treatment. She hopes this treatment will put her on her path to health and to get a job so she can begin to pay back the tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt she and her family have accumulated.
