Ticks in Kansas
More LOL (lots of larvae), Kansas-style (http://www.tickencounter.org/current_tick_activity)
reported to TERC by Dr. Michael Dryden. It was the 7th hottest and 5th
driest July on record for Manhattan KS. Average day time highs @ 99F
(17 days above 100) and only 0.69” of rain. Tick activity typically
drops precipitously with such conditions. Not so this year - in the
past 2 weeks, reports from 3 Vets in North central and Eastern Kansas of
severe tick infestations with anemia on dogs (mixed Lone Stars and Am.
dog ticks). And just look at the larval Lone Stars that came from one
dog bed in Wamego KS. Yikes!!
