"Several hundred persons took part today in the fifth annual Tick-Borne Disease Alliance Bite Back for a Cure
run and walk at Sherwood Island State Park. The Alliance is dedicated to raising awareness promoting
advocacy, and supporting initiatives to find a cure for tick-borne diseases, including Lyme. Orna Grand of
Westport, chair of the event, said it raised almost $25,000. “Lyme and other tick-borne diseases are endemic
in Connecticut, but they are also increasingly being reported in all 50 states,” she said. “I was bitten by a tick
in 2002, and I’m still battling the side effects of it. Organizing this walk is my way of spreading awareness
and hopefully protecting others from tick-borne diseases and their devastating impact.” Many of the walkers
and runners were survivors of Lyme Disease, including one participating in a wheel chair. (CLICK TO
