Tiny ticks can create major health problems
"According to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), Arkansas has some of the highest levels of tick-borne diseases of any state in the country and another big year is expected. More than 900 cases of tick-borne disease were reported to the ADH in 2012. These, according to Dianne Woodruff, included four diseases: anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia. Five people died from tick-borne diseases.
In addition, diseases from tick bites were found in 63 of the state’s 75 counties. Woodruff said illnesses occurred every month of the year, but peaked in June. The actual number of cases is likely higher as many go unreported, according to the ADH."
