The threat of ticks is underestimated in France and Belgium

The threat of ticks is underestimated in France and Belgium

A thousand cases of Lyme borreliosis are recorded annually in Belgium against 22,000 cases in the Netherlands, a country close to similar environmental conditions. Belgian figures are grossly underestimated. A recent study estimates the number of cases to 15 000 per year and a recent article shows that the vector ticks are found everywhere in Belgium, are sometimes very abundant locally and contain many pathogens other than Lyme disease . To identify areas at risk and the most common symptoms, we ask people to indicate as soon as possible, place a tick bite and symptoms on the survey site http: / /www.tekentiques.net . 1500 Belgium have already answered within 1 month and the investigation is now also open to France. The results will be presented regularly on the site and that on 15 September.
