Newsweek just wrote about the article recently published by Dr DeLong. There are certain assumptions made in the reporting that require clarification however. When they report: "The condition is poorly understood; there is no set diagnosis for it, and...(while) the cause is unknown—some believe the bug can disrupt the immune system—and it can take months to recover..." That is not entirely true. We do understand the condition and the effects borrelia has on the immune system. The two precision medical articles just published in the medical literature by Dr Freeman and I outline the primary causes of disability in those suffering with chronic Lyme/PTLDS and novel treatments for those failing traditional antibiotics. These are in PubMed:
(Horowitz, R.I.; Freeman, P.R. Precision Medicine: retrospective chart review and data analysis of 200 patients on dapsone combination therapy for chronic Lyme disease/post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome: part 1. International Journal of General Medicine 2019:12 101–119. https://www.dovepress.com/precision-medicine-retrospective-…

Horowitz, R.I.; Freeman, P.R. Precision Medicine: The Role of the MSIDS Model in Defining, Diagnosing, and Treating Chronic Lyme Disease/Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome and Other Chronic Illness: Part 2. Healthcare 2018, 6, 129.

Lets not make believe we don't understand this condition or have answers. We do understand a lot about how Lyme and co-infections affect the body. I have recently applied to one of the larger Lyme foundations to get a grant to do a multicenter study on dapsone combination therapy in those with Chronic Lyme/PTLDS (Lyme-MSIDS). I am waiting to hear back. If approved, that study should help resolve some of the controversies.
