From Jane

This is a little misleading because ticks can pass on many infections viral and bacterial. There are several bacterial infections that can affect the spinal cord and brain as well as many other systems and organs in the body the most common one being Lyme Disease if in fact someone has Lyme Disease then they would not be treated on steroids as this would allow the infection to have a greater hold as they suppress the immune system. Lyme Disease needs to be treated by antibiotics and certain life threatening symptoms such as heart block or encephalopathy should be treated with IV antibiotics even then symptoms can return even years later and may have to be retreated with further courses of antibiotics.

It doesn't sound as though this little girl had a bacterial infection, she was fortunate to have made a good recovery.

The science is still emerging on tick borne illnesses so for up to date information visit Lyme Disease Action website"
