"The current list of tick borne diseases for New England includes Lyme, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Q Fever, Powassan Viral Encephalitis (Woodchuck tick), Tularemia, and Bartonella. All of them are potentially serious, and even deadly, if not correctly diagnosed and treated.
This rapid spread of tick borne disease has caused many to be reluctant to walk in the woods or to rake leaves. In order to stay in touch with nature, we have to learn how to avoid tick bites. That was the thought behind Dr. Mather of the University of Rhode Island when he decided as an entomologist to specialize in ticks and to help people avoid the encounter in the first place. He does not advise people to stay inside. Check out his very interactive and informative website at TickEncounter.org."
